CO₂e Emissions Inventory Limits

CO₂e Emissions Inventory Limits

The CO2e Emissions Inventory Limits are broken down into three main categories:

Temporal Limits

For the calculation of the NTUA’s carbon footprint, the most recent full year (2024) is defined as the reference year, while 2023 is taken as the base year.

Organizational Boundaries

NTUA records and accounts for emissions resulting from all activities for which it has operational responsibility, the main ones being the operation of its facilities and travel.

Operational limits

Direct emissions, which arise from sources owned or controlled by NTUA, include the combustion of natural gas for heating, the movement of the institution’s vehicles and the leakage of refrigerants from the facilities’ air conditioning and refrigeration units.

Indirect emissions, which arise from sources not owned or controlled by NTUA, include electricity consumption from the grid and the movement of students and teaching and administrative staff of the institution. Other categories of indirect emissions include waste disposal, wastewater management and the supply of goods, such as paper.
