Postgraduate programs

At the National Technical University of Athens, in addition to the targeted courses and directions in the undergraduate curricula, extensive interdepartmental courses are available in postgraduate programs committed to sustainability, responding to critical contemporary needs.

A prominent position in this direction is the Interdepartmental Master’s Degree “Environment and Development” coordinated by the School of Agricultural and Surveying Engineering – Geoinformatics Engineering of NTUA. The objective of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program (MSc) is the interdisciplinary enrichment and specialization in the methods and techniques of integrated interdisciplinary approach, research, cooperation and addressing the objectively multidimensional issues and problems of Environment and Development.

Regarding the study of energy issues that will lead to a sustainable ecosystem of the future, the master’s degree in “Energy Production and Management” offers in-depth knowledge in the fields of renewable sources, energy efficiency and sustainable management of energy resources.

Another interdepartmental master’s degree with a clear focus on sustainability issues, with the main focus on SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sewerage) and SDG 14 (Marine Biodiversity) is the Interdepartmental Master’s Degree “Water Resources Science and Technology” coordinated by the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with the Schools of Agricultural and Surveying Engineering – Geoinformatics Engineering and Mining-Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. This project offers an interdisciplinary approach to the challenges related to the formulation and implementation of an effective water management policy, through the combined investigation of the quantitative and qualitative aspects of management but also the co-examination of relevant policies (energy, agriculture, etc.), the utilization of appropriate tools (e.g. economic) and the promotion of the participation of interested water users and the wider society in the decision-making.

In addition, the MSc “Materials Science and Technology”, an Interdisciplinary Interdepartmental Program that aims at the training of Engineers and other scientists in the field of materials, conventional and advanced, also includes targeted courses on sustainability. This sector is a very important part of a country’s national economy (industry, crafts, etc.) and the development of other economic and technical activities (energy sector, construction, etc.) is based on it.

In addition to the Postgraduate Programs that are implemented exclusively with the collaboration of NTUA faculties, and in the context of extroversion but also with the universality of the issue of sustainability, the National Technical University of Athens, through the School of Chemical Engineering, also participates in the interdisciplinary-interinstitutional program “Didactics of Chemistry, New Educational Technologies and Education for Sustainable Development”, which, among other things, aims to cover issues related to principles,  methodologies and practices for the environment and Sustainable Development.
