Sustainable transportation and transfers
Promoting bicycling and walking
Safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists have been created at the Zografou Polytechnic University, facilitating green movement within the Polytechnic University. There is already a 4km long cycle path which crosses the Polytechnic City from the Katechaki Gate to the gate on Iroon Polytechniou Street. This project improves bicycle accessibility and is linked to a broader planning of cycling routes in Athens. At the same time, NTUA encourages the use of public transport (there are nearby bus stops and a connection to the metro), as well as carpooling programs, to reduce car traffic within the campus. These initiatives make the daily commute of students and staff greener and safer, fostering a culture of sustainable mobility.

Promote the use of public transport
The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has undertaken actions to enhance the use of public transport and the implementation of carpooling and electromobility programs, including these initiatives in the broader sustainable development plan of the institution. These actions are crucial elements for reducing the greenhouse gas footprint and promoting a more sustainable everyday life in academia.
Access to Zografou Campus
Bus lines 608 and 230 which connect Athens with the Municipality of Zografou, as well as line 242.
The nearest metro stop is “Katehaki”, which is connected by bus 242 from Katehaki metro station inside the Campus.
There is a minibus that connects the two campuses (Patission and Zografou) with three departures per day from each campus.
Access to the Patission Campus
The Patission Campus is located next to the National Archaeological Museum in the center of Athens, where there are multiple public transport options provided by the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA):
There are many bus lines that pass through Patission and Stournari, that connect the city center with almost every area. These buses usually have stops near the entrance of the NTUA buildings or in proximity.
The nearest metro stop is “Omonia”, which is connected by bus or trolley that passes through Patission Street.
Also, there are trolley lines that cross the area and connect various points of the city with the center, offering ease of transportation.
Carpooling and Electromobility Program at NTUA

The National Technical University of Athens has been encouraging the use of carpooling since 2011, offering a solution for the daily commute of its employees and students. This practice is particularly promoted for routes to and from the Katehaki Metro station. Through the exchange of cars between students, the Technical University aims to reduce traffic congestion and pollution, while improving the occupancy of each vehicle and the economic-environmental efficiency of transportation. A group of students has started working on the digital support of the program with an online application for the expansion of NTUA carpooling throughout Athens.
